Preparing code for interim

Interim is this Friday and I must show my progress made so far. To prepare for then I really need to develop and finalise the character of my tadpole. I will have more than one tadpole with unique behaviours. To get this right I will work on each tadpole separately. Once I have it as desired I will put it into my final code using classes. I will do this with the other unique and finished tadpoles as well. From there I can work out the aesthetics of my code rather than just the behaviours of the tadpoles.

Unique behaviours may include -

  • size
  • width
  • height
  • colour
  • fast
  • slow
  • gradient
  • translucent
  • goes outside the page
  • stays within the page
For more ideas on colours I will go to colorlovers.com to be inspired and get a good colour palette. I also want to relate my colour palette back to tadpoles and their original environment.

Final Four Images. Structure to Noise

Development - Process

An abstract shape which I tried creating to depict the leaf.

Creating structure and noise

Playing with colours that claimed to be "earthy tones" on colourlovers.com when they really did not go with the greens of the leaves.

Trying different sizes to create more noise.

A way too red, bold outline around the "leaf" shapes.

A nicer green around the 'leaf' shapes which help support the idea of these circle shapes representing an abstract leaf form.

Inspiration and Precedent Images

My inspiration for this project is falling leaves being blown by the wind. I chose this as I wanted to take a simple aspect of nature and depict it in an abstract form. I will take the green and earthy tones, the small, simple round shapes of the leaves and the patter in which the fall in as precedent principles. I like the noise and structure in which they create. As they leaves fall they're depicting structure as you can see the shapes of the leaves. However once fallen to the ground they create more "noise" rather than structure as they lay upon each other create many different shapes and different layers of colours upon each other. This makes it hard to depict each individual shape of each leaf and together they create 'noise.'

I like the green colours in this image and would like to use these tones as inspiration as opposed to the orange. This is because they orange may not represent leaves in an abstract form.

Development - Struggling with Loops still

An experiment I did with line thickness and colour.

Code I found and copied just to see how it was set out. I'm still relly having trouble with loops so have been looking at other code to see what they have done. I then change the variables to try and help myself understand loops.

Another piece of code that I made. Would be much better if the lines were thicker.
Maybe coloured with a change of opacity as it goes on. Also if the lines came off the page.

Another piece of code I used off the internet to play with the variables. Although this code did not use loops and had a lot of randoms and floats. Some of this code I didn't completely understand.

I had an idea for inspiration for my code. I want to take a form of nature so perhaps falling leaves. I will think about this further and experiment more before making up my mind. I will then find some precedent images for this inspiration to help me write my code and choose the colours.

Practicing and struggling with Loops for project 2

Beginning pattern using loops that we began with in class.

I then attempted the PowerPoint tutorial on the school of design website. I really struggled with this. It's hard wrapping my head around loops. I understand that it's a shortcut and that it's telling the computer to repeat something and adding a variable of one each time for example.

I then added one of the codes from the tutorial onto the circles I had made.

I added colour.

Blue and purple but not strong colours as they go together nicer when softer. The lines start thicker and get thinner as they head towards the left.

I then changed the gradients of the colours. So they start strong and then fade colour.

I'm going to have to pratise more with loops and making patterns. I will experiment further with structure and shapes. I would like to involve more lines and angles. Colours and gradients will be used more. I would like to discover a good colour combination that will go nicely with a gradient.

Project 2 Sketches

These are some sketches of possible ideas for transformation. I will try to make a few of these on processing. It's good to be able to have an idea and then create it on the computer. Colours may be change, this is just a very rough idea.

Experiments

My experiments from the first lesson of Project2

I start by creating this basic pattern.

I then added a black background and red stoke.
Played around adding curves, orange fill. Primary colours don't look very good. For my final pattern I will make sure to giver careful consideration to the colours I use. I will use colours that compliment each other and are subtle.

I made more patterns.

I then had a play with colours and patterns.

There are only two and half weeks until project 2 is due. I'm struggling with make variables and will look at some more tutorials to get my skills up there. I want a really good final project 2.
Next lecture we will be covering colour theory which will be good. I really need to consider -
What is structure?
What is noise?
I will continue to read over the project outline to clarify this idea. I will continue to experiment and play with the pattern maker. I will also keep looking for inspiration on openprocessing.com

I went on this website here: http://www.learningprocessing.com/exercises/chapter-3/exercise-3-7/
To find some tutorials and more inspiration. I think I will keep coming back to it to learn more code and find some more ideas. There was a snake pattern which I really liked and some fading squares which I also like. I think this project has to be static though and not involve movement or clicking the mouse. I will have to check this detail over with the tutors.

Some other people in the class had their codes shown in class today (just their little experiments.) I think that some of them were very impressive and I would like to know how they did them.
