Practicing and struggling with Loops for project 2

Beginning pattern using loops that we began with in class.


I then attempted the PowerPoint tutorial on the school of design website. I really struggled with this. It's hard wrapping my head around loops. I understand that it's a shortcut and that it's telling the computer to repeat something and adding a variable of one each time for example.

I then added one of the codes from the tutorial onto the circles I had made.

I added colour.

Blue and purple but not strong colours as they go together nicer when softer. The lines start thicker and get thinner as they head towards the left.

I then changed the gradients of the colours. So they start strong and then fade colour.

I'm going to have to pratise more with loops and making patterns. I will experiment further with structure and shapes. I would like to involve more lines and angles. Colours and gradients will be used more. I would like to discover a good colour combination that will go nicely with a gradient.

Research Anaglyphic 3D images

Anaglyphic 3D images require you to wear red/cyan glasses (viewers) like those pictured above. The red lens normally goes over your left eye.
Important: 3-D viewers are available from many sources. Be aware that not all viewers are created equal and some give much better results than others. Factors such as the accuracy of the colour gels and the amount of light which they let through determine how well the 3D effect will work. If you find that the 3D effect is not working, it may be because your viewers are poor quality.









Anaglyph 3D is the name given to the stereoscopic 3D effect achieved by means of encoding each eye's image using filters of different (usually chromatically opposite) colors, typically red and cyan. Anaglyph 3D images contain two differently filtered colored images, one for each eye. When viewed through the "color coded" "anaglyph glasses", each of the two images reaches one eye, revealing an integrated stereoscopic image. The visual cortex of the brain fuses this into perception of a three dimensional scene or composition.

Materials

I have also been thinking about possible materials that I can use for my final model. After discussion with my tutor Craig, we decided plastic may be a good way to go. This is because the material will look sharp, form a tube easily and slide easily as the tubes need to slide in and out from each other. One tube must be smaller than the other. I brainstormed many different types of metal and this seems to be the best one to try so far. I may need to paint the inside of the plastic black though so the light doesn't interfere with the vision of the telescope.

Project 2 Sketches


These are some sketches of possible ideas for transformation. I will try to make a few of these on processing. It's good to be able to have an idea and then create it on the computer. Colours may be change, this is just a very rough idea.

Development onto the binoculars and 3D


In this class I brainstormed and write down some possibilities with my project. I've been thinking I could turn the telescope into binoculars and make them 3d using red and blue filters. However, this would require four magnifying glasses which may get expensive. I'm going to get a cheap pair of classic 3d glasses and experiment. Also, making an image 3d may be a bit of a challenge. This is also something I'm going to have to experiment with.

If the 3d binoculars don't work out, my second option is to distort the magnifying glasses and then print out a pattern. Take a photograph of the pattern through the telescope and then put that image onto Photoshop. I would then use the transformation tool to distort the image to what would look normal through the telescope. This way the image would look upside down and distorted but when looking through the telescope it would become clear. One thing I would have to experiment with is making sure the magnifying glasses would still focus at a distance if their shape were to be distorted.

Experiments

My experiments from the first lesson of Project2

I start by creating this basic pattern.

I then added a black background and red stoke.
Played around adding curves, orange fill. Primary colours don't look very good. For my final pattern I will make sure to giver careful consideration to the colours I use. I will use colours that compliment each other and are subtle.

I made more patterns.

 
I then had a play with colours and patterns.

There are only two and half weeks until project 2 is due. I'm struggling with make variables and will look at some more tutorials to get my skills up there. I want a really good final project 2.
Next lecture we will be covering colour theory which will be good. I really need to consider -
What is structure?
What is noise?
I will continue to read over the project outline to clarify this idea. I will continue to experiment and play with the pattern maker. I will also keep looking for inspiration on openprocessing.com

To find some tutorials and more inspiration. I think I will keep coming back to it to learn more code and find some more ideas. There was a snake pattern which I really liked and some fading squares which I also like. I think this project has to be static though and not involve movement or clicking the mouse. I will have to check this detail over with the tutors.

Some other people in the class had their codes shown in class today (just their little experiments.) I think that some of them were very impressive and I would like to know how they did them.
